Lékai-Kiss Ramóna has shared the surprising story behind her first date with her husband, handball player Lékai Máté. What initially seemed like the most romantic gesture imaginable turned out to have a rather unexpected explanation involving an American football game.
The couple recently celebrated ten years together, marking a decade since Máté first entered the life of the Sztárban Sztár judge. Looking back on the beginning of their relationship, Ramóna recalled how their romance started with a midnight meeting at Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest.
At the time, she was convinced that Máté was the most romantic man in the world. However, around six months later, she discovered the real reason he had suggested meeting so late at night.
A midnight date with an unexpected explanation
“Our first meeting was really romantic because Máté came up with the idea of meeting at Vajdahunyad Castle at midnight,” Ramóna recalled.
She admitted that she initially thought her future husband was exceptionally romantic for arranging such an unusual date.
But the truth eventually came out: an NFL game had been taking place that evening, and it had only just finished. Máté had apparently been available to meet her only after the match was over.
The revelation became a source of amusement for the couple, who later laughed together about the real reason behind their supposedly dreamy midnight rendezvous.
Despite the unexpected explanation, the date marked the beginning of a relationship that has now lasted a decade.
How Ramóna and Máté first came into contact
Their love story began around the annual Szigliget Zander Festival, which takes place during the weekend of October 23.
According to Ramóna, Máté’s grandfather played a part in bringing the couple together. During the festival, he cooked a fish for her, and later that day Máté sent her a message.
The following night, the pair met at midnight near Vajdahunyad Castle.
“I met Máté’s grandfather at the Szigliget Zander Festival, where he cooked a fish for me. That same day, Máté messaged me, and we met at midnight the following night,” Ramóna explained.
From that seemingly ordinary exchange, a relationship developed into a lasting partnership and family life.
A special tenth anniversary celebrated at home
For their tenth anniversary, the couple had hoped to return to Vajdahunyad Castle, the place where their story began, and take a romantic walk together.
However, their plans had to change because Ramóna was feeling slightly unwell that day.
Instead of going out, the couple celebrated at home with their young son. They played board games, rested, watched films and enjoyed popcorn while relaxing together.
Although the evening was different from what they had originally planned, Ramóna said she was genuinely happy with how they spent the occasion.
“I was thinking that it really doesn’t matter where you are or what you do. What matters is who you are with,” she reflected.
Her words offered a glimpse into the couple’s relationship ten years after their first date. For Ramóna and Máté, the anniversary was not about an elaborate romantic gesture or returning to a famous location, but about spending meaningful time together as a family.
And while their first date may have been inspired partly by the timing of an NFL game, their decade together has given them a much more enduring reason to celebrate.
